Summer Watch Trends: What's Hot this Season

Summer Watch Trends: What's Hot this Season

These are some really good summertime watches; there are divers, of course, but there are also field watches, pilot's watches, and more sophisticated choices.

Seiko Diver 'Skinny Willard'

The Ref. 6105-8000 is a more wearable 41mm C-shaped case watch that inherits the much-loved features of the beloved 62MAS and the 'Captain Willard' automatic Seiko divers of the 1970s. These features include automatic winding, a highly readable dial, a practical dive timing bezel, and sturdy stainless steel construction. It makes sense why so many frogmen and G.I.s in the Vietnam War wore Seiko dive watches similar to this one; they were the exact instruments required to live in the field.

Tudor Black Bay 41

Despite drawing inspiration from past models from the brand's archive, Tudor's Black Bay line is a contemporary masterpiece that can satisfy your needs for a reliable chronograph, a dive watch, or an everyday watch. This style, the Black Bay 41, is ideal for entertaining in the summer. Elegant enough to go with you to a classy dinner, but still casual enough to take a quick plunge in the pool, its stainless steel band and case are readily cleaned of perspiration and water. This 41mm silver variant, which comes in several sizes, is great for wider wrists.

Cartier Panthère

Perhaps a 27mm stainless steel Cartier dress watch doesn't seem like a relaxed, sun-drenched choice, but that's just what makes this model so lovely: A Panthère reference WSPN0007, its matching bracelet and stainless steel construction make it far more wearing on hot summer days, but it's also perfectly acceptable for more formal settings thanks to its elegant "Roman" dial and blued-steel "sword" handset.

Breitling Chronomat Automatic 36 'South Sea'

Are you trying to find that recognizable "rainbow" look that watches seem to have all the time? You'll get it with this stylish Chronomat Automatic 36 "South Sea." The automatic movement within, verified by a chronometer, will be keeping good time as its gem-set bezel draws in onlookers. The bullet-style bracelet will also be delivering hours of relaxation throughout the sweltering summer days. (In addition, it's the ideal watch to share with your partner at 36mm.)

Panerai Luminor 1950 Pangaea Limited Edition

Although most of Panerai's modern creations aren't meant to be near water, this 2010s Luminor 1950 Pangaea Limited Edition is unquestionably designed to go below the surface. It is a dual-purpose instrument that is appealing to serious divers since it has an analog depth gauge around the periphery of the dial in addition to regular timekeeping features. (Thank goodness, it's made of titanium, measuring 47mm in diameter!)

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph

This elegant Royal Oak Chronograph's dark blue Grand Tapisserie dial instantly conjures up images of summer, but there are so many more reasons to adore this modern interpretation of another of Genta's well-known designs: Its rhodium-toned subdials, white gold indices, octagonal chronograph pushers, and automatic movement all work together to create a watch that is much more than the sum of its parts.
